I chose UATX because I wanted to do something different. I have three older brothers who went to college before me. All of them are smart and capable and seemed to waste a lot of time and money at elite colleges, wandering their way toward graduation without much to say at the end of it, and I wanted to pursue something more real than that.
My favorite class so far has been Supreme Court History, taught this spring term by Texas Supreme Court Justice Young and Fifth Circuit Court Judge Oldham. We explored the highest court in the country through the lens of not just what happened, but the why and how it happened as well, and I loved getting to learn from two people so passionate about the topic and knowledgeable in the field.
I was most surprised by the people. I definitely was scared as to who else would join such a risky institution but my fellow students, along with the faculty and staff, are engaged, interesting, funny, and intelligent. They truly make the school the amazing place it is.
I genuinely do not know, but I’m not worried about it. UATX provides so much opportunity for exploration and discovery so while I am very interested in education entrepreneurship, I also love the law and our country, while dreaming of becoming the next Ina Garten. UATX makes it feel like any of those paths is actually open to me.
This is not exactly the norm, but I have done no internships. UATX has provided amazing opportunities everywhere, but I focused more at the moment on reading, studying, and engaging deeply in my classes. And I am for sure the only UATX student who was a nationally ranked cheerleader before college, so this summer I am again working for the Universal Cheerleaders Association as a cheer camp instructor.
I absolutely love Austin. Coming from suburban California, living in a city is the best. Everything is so close, there is a perfect coffee spot, a great restaurant, and something interesting to do everywhere you look. The city is alive and vibrant, and there’s no way to get bored.
